Mural Submission for Ravenswood
Last summer, the Greater Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce was accepting open submissions for a mural of the neighborhood. The mural I proposed was intended to be a celebration of the Ravenswood community, inspired by the local businesses, schools, and everyday life that make this area special, highlighting everything from coffee shops and bakeries to the presence of families and students. Each part of the mural reflected what I see and appreciate in the neighborhood.
The artwork is made up of blocked designs, each representing a different aspect of Ravenswood. While some blocks are inspired by specific businesses, they're intentionally abstract enough to remain relevant even if the neighborhood changes, because as a long-term North Side Chicago resident, I've seen plenty of change over the years.
The mural also includes the simple message "Have a good day," a familiar phrase that captures the friendly, walkable spirit of the area, especially fitting for a spot that many neighbors pass through on their way to the Metra or Brown Line.
This piece was intended to bring neighbors together and reflect the creative, family-friendly energy of the area. I had hoped it would encourage people to stop, connect, and take pride in our shared space.
My piece was not selected this time, but it was my first mural submission locally, and I am excited to share the work that went into it!
